4 months ago ShareOn September 21, the Vung Tau City People's Committee held a meeting between city leaders and the principals of schools under the city’s authority to mark the beginning of the 2024-2025 school year. Mrs. Lê Thị Thanh Bình, Permanent Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, Chairwoman of the Vung Tau City People’s Council; and Mr. Hoàng Vũ Thảnh, Chairman of the City People’s Committee, chaired the meeting.
For the 2024-2025 school year, the city has 104 schools, including three that have just been inaugurated and are now operational.
The school system in Vung Tau City is largely solidified, green, clean, and beautiful. Facilities and equipment for teaching and learning have been invested in and improved to meet essential conditions for educational activities.
This year, the education sector has been allocated 3,454 positions, an increase of 23 compared to the previous year, though there is still a shortfall of 396 positions according to the allocation decision. The average class size is 31 students for preschool, 36 for primary, and 46 for secondary education.
During the meeting, education management officials raised concerns about difficulties related to facilities, staffing, education policies, aesthetics, and school safety.
Specifically, the lack of specific financial guidelines for organizing life skills education has posed challenges for schools. Some schools are also facing issues with the socialization of swimming lessons. Additionally, many schools struggle with funding and lack experience in maintaining green spaces on campus.
Moreover, the facilities of some schools are deteriorating, and there are still schools without enough classrooms. Many schools are short on teachers and staff, complicating the teaching and learning process.
The fire safety systems in some schools are damaged, and traffic safety issues outside certain schools are not adequately addressed.
Mrs. Nguyễn Thị Thu Thủy, Principal of Hương Sen Preschool, shared her unit's difficulties with city leaders.
In concluding the meeting, Chairman Hoàng Vũ Thảnh emphasized the importance of this meeting in listening to and finding solutions for the challenges facing the education sector this year.
The Chairman requested the Department of Education and Training, Department of Home Affairs, Department of Finance and Planning, and other relevant departments to collaborate and address issues within their authority while adhering to legal regulations.
The city will continue to organize meetings to respond to schools' requests and provide information on resolving issues raised during this meeting.
